The schere has been brought forward I
need hardly say from no desire to damage the interests of the present Tramway Company, and it is submitted simply that there is room for an additional line to the Peak, traversing a dif- ferent route, opening up a new district, and supplying the wants of the population living in a part of the City where no mechanical contrivance exists for facilitating a large and
rapidly increasing traffic.
In fact, it may be confidently stated,
that the public convenience demands it, and that the need for
such an additional line is far more urgent at the present time,
than the need for the original line was when the then Governor, His Excellency Sir G. F. Bowen, G.C.M.G., gave his assent to
the construction of the present tramway to the Feak.
With reference to the question as to the
terms upon which the present concession should be granted, I venture, on behalf of the concerned, to respectfully express
the hope that the same liberality will be exercised by the pre-
sent Administration in the matter of granting Government land
free for the new line and the necessary stations and buildings
as was exercised with such beneficial results, in the case of
the present Feak Tramway.
In conclusion I desire to mention that I
have no financial interest whatever in this suggested new Tran-
way, and that I am giving my support to the project simply and
solely upon public grounds, and from a firm conviction that the
